October @ Bloom

Happy October, friends!

One summer few years ago, we went to visit friends in Jackson Hole. They took us on one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever been on—through a lush canyon full of pines, blossoming shrubs, and incredible wildlife (we saw a mama moose with her baby!). A clear stream ran alongside us, and above us were the towering mountains, bare and rocky with a dusting of snow. We sat by the stream at one point, resting in the quiet and majestic beauty of our surroundings. It was a moment of abundance and surrender.

When I think about this time of year, my mind goes to that place and that moment. To me, early autumn feels like I am in a sweet seam of opportunity that invites me to look back at the abundance and warmth of the summer season and ahead to winter when the green leaves fall, the cold air comes, and we hunker down and rest to prepare for the next springtime.

This month, let’s take stock of the harvest from the growing season that just passed—what did we cultivate and nurture to bring us ease and sustenance in the months ahead? And what can we let fall away during this season in which the natural world shows us how letting go, death and dormancy are necessary for new growth and rebirth to occur.

Let’s sit quietly in this seam of abundance and release and be grateful for all it asks of us.
